Celebrating ten years of Nürburgring Track Days

Celebrating ten years of Nürburgring Track Days.

We already talked about the economic climate at the Nürburgring ten years ago in 2009, and why that created the ideal conditions for DN Events to run our first event.

But let us tell you more about how the idea first came about.

Back in 2009, on a UK forum dedicated to the Green Hell, there was a discussion started about running private UK track days dedicated to members of the forum. Conversation inevitably turned to organising an event on the Nordschleife and everyone agreed that it was truly a Fine Idea.

Except, as you probably already know, there are many Fine Ideas conceived and discussed on the Internet but more often than not, all the enthusiastic goodwill and commitment evaporates at the point where Stuff Has To Get Done For Real.

Our CEO, Darren Langeveld, was one of the members in that discussion on Northloop.co.uk back in 2009 and, probably in a fit of madness spurred on by everyone, made the offer to approach the Nürburgring management and try to secure a track day, but only on the condition that 25 other members financially committed to the idea.

Meaning, they had to put their money where their mouths were!

Well, a good number of them did just that, enough for Darren to start talks with the circuit that eventually led to the first Destination Nürburgring event in 2010.

“So,  Andrew, Colin, Nick, Danny, Neil, Lee, Dan, Sean, Stace, Thomas, Stu, Paul, Chris and a few others. This probably wouldn’t have ever happened without you. In this, our tenth year, as a thank you I want to invite you back to one of the 2020 events as my special guest. I’ll cover your entry, hotels and channel crossings.

You good people shall be forever remembered by me as ‘Founding Members’ for it was really down to you all, along with Russ Foster at DMWorx and Sunny and Neil Panniker at BHPMSport, who gave me the motivation and financial support to take the risk.

What you did back then, in complete faith, wasn’t buying a track day – you were helping to buy the dream” – Darren Langeveld
