There’s nothing quite like an out of season visit to the Nürburgring. Nothing is happening on track, there are no major events or Touristenfahrten to create a buzz and most importantly, everyone has real time for each other.
We always like to visit the Eifel in February or March to have face to face meetings with our colleagues and friends. Sure – we can conduct a lot of business by email or telephone but sometimes it’s just as nice to shake hands, have a coffee or, if you’re meeting Frozenspeed -a cocktail, and have a good old fashioned chat.
And so it was this March when we decided to combine a track day at Spa with a short visit to the Nürburgring. And, as it turned out later, a visit to Paris to buy another 205 GTi.
We love youngtimers, not only because of the incredible value some older cars offer, but also because, to us at least, they can be more interesting than the majority of modern cars. Sure, we could have taken something sensible but having recently sold our Audi D2 S8 to a good friend, we decided to dust off the Citroen C6 for the trip – the ultimate in comfortable cruising.
And everywhere we went, people were commenting on the Citroen, most of it really positive. Incredibly brave styling, supremely comfortable suspension and a great JBL audio system meant covering 1250 miles was no trouble. And yes, we did detour via Paris to see/purchase a lovely Sorrento Green 205 GTi from a fellow enthusiast. Maybe more on that in another blog post.
So, whilst we doubt the big Citroen will make it to one of our 2019 track day events – the little Peugeot might!
Whatever you drive, enjoy the ride and we’ll see you in the Green Hell soon.
